No Beauty Pageants for Children!?

Thats right, But only in France. The french senate is in the process of making beauty pageants for children under the age of sixteen illegal. Though these pageants are less common in France than they are here the french senate decided on wednesday that beauty pageants featuring young prepubescent children were wrong. By passing the ban the government is hoping for an increase in gender equality and the raise of self esteem in young girls.
I personally agree with the french's decision to ban pageants. I think they are bad for the children involved, even if the child's parents think that they are doing the right thing by putting their kid in a pageant that is fully based on beauty. I think these pageants are sexualizeing young girls and ruining their self esteem and I hope America soon follows in France's foot steps and pass a similar ban.

  1. I completely agree that making young girls think that their physical beauty is the only thing that makes them special is very wrong. However, I have to admit that I do watch shows like Toddlers and Tiaras for the enjoyment of seeing the mothers freak out over chipped press-on nails and fake tans. The mothers are not necessarily bad mothers, but they have the wrong ideas about parenting their bad-tempered diva children.
